Illustration: East of the Sun and West of the Moon

"Just hold on to my shaggy white coat and you'll have nothing to fear," said the bear.

From Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe's East of the Sun and West of the Moon

A simple little illustration in technical pens, greyscale watercolour and black pencil.
I did this in very small bursts over a very long period of time, so I don't actually have any idea how long it took. I'm quite fond of it though. =)

Illustration: Bridal Shower

A little illustration I whipped up for a bridal shower invitation.
In this case, I'm hosting the shower, so I had no one to please but me, really – how refreshing!
It's a winter wedding, so thus a winter shower as well, so I wanted some reference to that, hence the umbrella, she loves cake, which is why she's standing on a cupcake, and her favourite colour is blue
And since she's the girl who commissioned the Wren wedding invitations, I put a little wren on her jumper, to tie everything together.
All in all, this was great fun (barring the brolly, I never like drawing them =P)

This was done in Adobe Photoshop CS4, over this sketch:

Sneak Peek: Possum

A look at a pen and ink drawing I'm currently working on – here you see a small bit of a western (Australian) pygmy possum. They are adorable, although the banksia flower this one is sitting on is less so. =P Quite meditative, though, once you get in the rhythm.

Quotes: Thief of Time

My take on Susan, in Terry Pratchett's wonderful Thief of Time.
Once I'd finished, I realised that it was quite similar to a pretty-much-forgotten old sketch from 2004 (want to cringe at the awfulness of a 6-year-old sketch? You can find it here in my very very neglected (practically archeological) Elfwood gallery). I suppose that means my vision of the character hasn't altered all that much. =)
I probably shouldn't have changed my mind about how she was standing half way through this sketch; I don't think she's weighted quite right. Ah well.

Quotes: Cats in May

A new quotes sketch, this time from Doreen Tovey's hilarious Cats in May, which is all about life with several manic Siamese Cats (and a squirrel).

I was mucking about with my lovely sepia PITT pens, and attempting to practice cats (never a strong point in my pictures) and simplified shapes.
Not sure how well I succeeded there, but at least the quote is preserved in my sketchbook, so I can remember the book even after it's returned to the library. =)
